Safeguarding For Looked After Children

Looked after children (also known as children in care) can be one of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged groups of children. Many are from troubled backgrounds, some have suffered trauma, and many have experienced family breakdown, crime and upheaval. 

The government and local authorities pay particular attention to this group of children to ensure they are safeguarded and their vulnerabilities are not taken advantage off. The two most important areas where a great deal of consideration is given is in the education arena and the child arrangements and care arena. The education arena is where many looked after children can fail to attain academic achievement unless provisions, extra care and special measures are put in place. The child arrangements and care arena is also important and the government and local authority pay particular attention to ensuring a vulnerable child has adequate accommodation, care and is provided for where their families and parents are unable to do so.
