Making Your Own Beauty Products

Beauty products available on the market can be expensive and can contain preservatives, carcinogenic chemicals, and toxins. They can also be quite expensive.

Making your own beauty products that are fresh and pure is fun, easy, and inexpensive.

Have a go at some of the recipes below and try them out. Have fun!

Hydrating Makeup Remover

Recipe 1 – Olive Oil

Mix 5 tablespoons of water with 5 tablespoons of olive oil and store in a bottle. Before using, shake the bottle well and apply the mixture on your face with cotton wool. Wipe the makeup and oil off your face with a warm damp face towel or water wipe.  

Recipe 2 – Witch Hazel

Mix 5 tablespoons of water with 5 tablespoons of witch hazel and store in a bottle. Before using, shake the bottle well and apply the mixture on your face with cotton wool. Wipe the makeup and oil off your face with a warm damp face towel or water wipe.  

Recipe 3 – Jojoba Oil and Rose Water

Mix 5 tablespoons of rose water with 5 tablespoons of jojoba oil and store in a bottle. Before using, shake the bottle well and apply the mixture on your face with cotton wool. Wipe the makeup and oil off your face with a warm damp face towel or water wipe.

Moisturising Face Mask

Recipe 1 – Lemon and Honey

Mix the juice of ½ a lemon with 2 tablespoons of honey. Blend the mixture well and apply it all over your face, avoiding the area around your eyes. Leave the mixture on your face for 20 minutes. Wash your face with warm water and gently dab dry with a soft towel.

Recipe 2 – Coconut Oil and Cacao Powder

Mix a ¼ cup of coconut oil with 1 tablespoon of cacao powder. Blend the mixture well and apply it all over your face, avoiding the area around your eyes. Leave the mixture on your face for 30 minutes. Wash your face with warm water and gently dab dry with a soft towel.

Recipe 3 – Avocado

Mashup half an avocado in a blender. Apply the avocado all over your face, avoiding the area around your eyes. Leave the avocado on your skin for 20 minutes. Wash your face with warm water and gently dab dry with a soft towel.

Recipe 4 – Bentonite Clay

Mix 1 tablespoon of bentonite clay with 3 tablespoons of water. Blend the mixture well and apply it all over the face, avoiding the area around the eyes. Leave for 20 minutes. Wash your face with warm water and gently dab dry with a soft towel.

Toner

Recipe 1 – Cider Vinegar

Mix 1 tablespoon of cider vinegar with 1 tablespoon of water. Soak a cotton wool ball or pad in the mixture and gently apply the mixture on your face, avoiding the area around your eyes.

Recipe 2 – Cider Vinegar and Witch Hazel

Mix 1 tablespoon of cider vinegar with 2 tablespoons of witch hazel. Soak a cotton wool ball or pad in the mixture and gently apply the mixture on your face, avoiding the area around your eyes.

Moisturiser

Recipe 1 – Olive Oil, Honey, and Chamomile Flowers

Mix ½ a cup of olive oil with 1 tablespoon of honey and 1 tablespoon of chamomile flowers. Blend the mixture together in a blender and store in a jar.  Place a small amount in the palm of your hand and rub it between both hands before gently applying it to your face. Shake well before use.

Recipe 2 – Coconut Oil, Vitamin E Oil, and Lavender Oil

Mix ½ a half a cup of liquid coconut oil with a teaspoon of vitamin E oil and 5-10 drops of lavender essential oil. Blend the mixture well and store in a jar. Place a small amount in the palm of your hand and rub it between both hands before gently applying it to your face.

Facial Oil

Recipe 1 – Carrot Seed Oil, Geranium Oil, Lavender Oil, and Jojoba Oil

Mix 3 drops of carrot seed essential oil, 3 drops of geranium essential oil. 3 drops of lavender oil, and 2 tablespoons of jojoba oil. Blend the mixture well and store in a small jar. Place a small amount on your fingers and gently pat it onto your face after toning. This is a daytime facial oil. 

Recipe 2 – Rosehip Oil, Jojoba Oil, Lavender Oil, Frankincense Oil, and Geranium Oil

Mix 1 tablespoon of rosehip seed oil, 2 tablespoons of jojoba oil, 4 drops of lavender essential oil, 4 drops of frankincense essential oil and 4 drops of geranium essential oil. Blend the mixture well and store in a jar. Place a small amount on your fingers and gently pat it onto your face after toning.

Exfoliator

Recipe 1 – Coconut Oil, Sea Salt, and Epsom Salts.

For your body only: Do not use on your face or on dry, damaged, and sensitive skin.

Mix a quarter cup of liquid coconut oil with a quarter cup of sea salt and a quarter cup of epsom salts. Blend the mixture well and store in a jar. Gently apply the mixture to your body in a circular motion. You can use your fingers, a brush, or a sponge. Wash with warm water and gently dab dry with a soft towel.

Recipe 2 – Coconut Oil and Brown Sugar

Mix a quarter cup of liquid coconut oil with a half cup of brown sugar. Blend the mixture well and store in a jar. Gently apply the mixture to your face or body in a circular motion. You can use your fingers, a brush, or a sponge. Wash with warm water and gently dab dry with a soft towel.

Body Butter

Recipe 1 – Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, Vanilla Oil, and Vitamin E Oil

Mix half a cup of shea butter, a quarter cup of liquid coconut oil, a few drops of vanilla oil and a tablespoon of vitamin E oil. Blend the mixture well and store in a jar. Gently massage a small amount into your body and leave it  to be absorbed by the skin.

Recipe 2 – Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, Cocoa Butter,  and other essential oils

Mix half a cup of shea butter, half a cup of cocoa butter, half a cup of liquid coconut oil, half a cup of olive oil and a few drops of essential oil(s) of your choice. Blend the mixture well and store in a jar. Gently massage a small amount into your body and leave it to be absorbed by the skin.
